Quail, Kestrels & Big Horn Sheep
It’s late in the season and hot. Not too hot but warmer than we’d like. But Anza Borrego is impressive. Lots of vegetation and wild life. This shot of the Big Horn Sheep was taken by Magy from camp. I think we have spotted a total of 10 sheep between our camp and along the Borrego Palm Canyon Trail. The trail starts just outside of camp and leads to a desert oasis with running water and huge palm trees.
There is a family of California Quail living close by. Every afternoon mom and dad quail take the six youngsters for a walk through camp foraging for their evening meal. We were also able to see three young Kestrels leave the nest for the first time and take flight while mom and dad were chasing off curious ravens.
They have a small but nice visitors center that is built underground and staffed with friendly but a bit over chatty lady volunteers.
Hasta la vista
