ThunderEggs

Rockhound State Park is one of the few if not the only state park that encourages you to take home the rocks and minerals you find here (some restrictions apply). After a look at the park map and a visit to the visitors center we embark upon the “ThunderEgg Trail” in search of, you guessed it ThunderEggs! Now being a tenderfoot geologist I’m not sure I could tell the difference between a thunderegg and an Easter egg but I’m willing to give it a try. I’ve been told they can be found up in the hills seen in the picture. After spending hours on the trail and in the aforementioned hills  I have become  an experienced rock hound. I have determined that thundereggs look more like goose eggs because that is how many I found.

The adventure was not a total bust because we did find a number of rocks that we believe to be of the mineral variety. We look forward to meeting up with Dan & Dawn for final verification.

Overall we’re enjoying our stay here, the campground is well kept, the people are friendly and the showers are fantastic. We plan to spend 4 nights here.

So long for now,
Mike
