Heart of the Hills Campground

Just 5 miles south of Port Angeles is Heart of the Hills campground, located in the middle of an old growth pine forest. Very secluded with sites that offer a great deal of privacy.

Another dozen or so miles up the road is Hurricane Ridge, featuring a jagged mountain range that was once part of the ocean floor. It now stands about a mile high and is home to some of the parks 200 glaciers.

Early Tuesday evening we were visited by one of the area residents. A Barred Owl that lives nearby and hunts for rodents in the campground. He perched in a nearby tree long enough for a few lucky campers to take photographs. I’ve posted a shot I was lucky enough to capture in the gallery section.
