Crown Of The Continent

Glacier National Park covers over 1500 square miles and 97% of that area is undeveloped.

There are over a dozen campgrounds in the park. Our first stop was Apgar Campground just beyond the West Glacier entrance station. Situated in a beautiful place along side Lake Mcdonald it was big, crowded and noisy.

Before we moved on we took a 90 minute shuttle ride on the Going-To-The-Sun road to Logan Pass, located in the center of the park, That was an adventure all by it’s self. While waiting for the return shuttle at the uncovered shuttle stop an electrical storm passed through dumping lots of rain and hail. We were glad when the shuttle showed up.

After three days we decided to head over to the east side of the park. A park ranger who looked old enough to have been present when the park was inaugurated in 1910 stated that “If you only see one place in the park you must see Two Medicine”. So off we went.

The campground is half the size of Apgar. They have very strict generator and noise rules. Serenity at last!

We went on three hikes, a boat ride and attended two evening programs.

We were snowed on last night so tomorrow were heading south.
