Across The Golden Gate

After crossing the Golden Gate Bridge, Samuel P. Taylor State Park is a 45 minute drive up the coast. Lagunitas Creek flows through the park, the banks of the creek are off limits to visitors this time of year to allow endangered steelhead trout as well as salmon to return to spawn.

We have been among the redwoods for some time now. We chose this campground because it is only about 8 miles from Point Reyes National Seashore (no camping allowed).

So we hopped on the “little mule” and headed off to the seashore to explore what we could, it’s a big place. We hiked the “earthquake trail” which sits on the San Andreas Fault. There are educational signs along the way that refer to the 1906 quake that nearly destroyed San Francisco, as well as info about the 1989 quake. Then we were off to the beach for a picnic. 40 miles later we’re back at camp.

Wednesday night we hung out with a family we met from Concord Ca., campfire and cocktails until 1 am.

It’s great to be on vacation,
Mike
